On a Friday night in Berkley a year ago, where could you sit down to eat at 11:30? The answer has changed since then, and the place that changed it is Coolidge Highway, not 12 Mile Road.
Three restaurants have opened in Berkley since December 2025. One took over an existing space on 12 Mile and kept the corridor's dining count about where it was. The other two opened on Coolidge, in buildings that were never full-service dining rooms: an auto parts shop and a sub shop. Between them, they push Berkley's dinner hour later in the evening and its late-night hour well past midnight.
12 Mile Road Traded One Restaurant for Another
Berkley Common at 12 Mile and Griffith closed after nearly eight years on that corner, FOX 2 reported. The space went to Slows Bar BQ, the Detroit barbecue name. Its Berkley location at 3087 W. 12 Mile Road opened Friday, Dec. 19, 2025.
So for 12 Mile, the past year brought one well-known restaurant in place of another. It didn't add a new dining room. Slows Berkley's posted hours also follow a familiar suburban dinner schedule: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Third-party listings show it closed Mondays.
That schedule makes Slows the early-evening anchor of the three. It's the one you can count on for a 5:30 family dinner on a school night or a Saturday lunch. It is also the first of the three to close each night.
Two Blocks South, Dinner Runs Another Hour
The Beverly sits at 3180 Coolidge, two blocks south of 12 Mile. It takes its name from Beverly, the residential side street at its corner. The building was an auto parts shop before restaurateur Travis Fourmont and executive chef Norman Valenti rebuilt it. The pair run Bar Pigalle near Brush Park in Detroit. They told The Detroit News they wanted to bring some of that restaurant's polish to Berkley in a more approachable form.
The opening took longer than first announced. In September 2025, Hour Detroit reported that the team expected to open that November. In early January 2026, Fourmont was aiming for the end of January. The Detroit News roundup of February 2026 openings counted The Beverly among that month's debuts.
Here is what the room offers, according to the preview coverage:
- Seating: 105 seats, including a long bar along the north wall. A separate room can close off for private dining for about 30 people, with a wine wall and midcentury modern hutches. A 52-seat patio was planned for warm weather.
- Menu style: Valenti called it "sort of supper club meets Midwestern flair," using local and regional ingredients from suppliers including Order Up Organics, Fish Eye Farms and Motor City Seafood.
- Planned weekly specials: Valenti described ideas such as a meatloaf night, fried chicken, porchetta, a Friday fish fry with walleye in season, and smoked prime rib on Saturdays from the kitchen's smoker.
- A carryover from Detroit: the Bar Pigalle bar burger, a single or double patty with American cheese, shredded lettuce and Dijonnaise on brioche.
The specials were described as plans before opening, so check the current menu before planning a Friday around walleye.
The hours are what matter for Berkley's evening. On its current OpenTable listing, The Beverly serves dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. On Friday and Saturday, that runs an hour past Slows. On Monday, it is the only one of the three restaurants open for dinner.
Weekend brunch has been added since opening. The restaurant's menu lists brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The patio is listed as a dining area, and OpenTable shows a price range of $31 to $50. The January coverage also mentioned daily lunch and an "oysters and boards" menu between services. Neither appears in the posted schedule as of early October, so a weekday lunch plan should start somewhere else for now.
Past Midnight, a Former Tubby's
The bigger change in Berkley's hours came in May. Buns & Patties opened Friday, May 15, 2026, at 2375 Coolidge, in what used to be a Tubby's. The Detroit News first reported the plan in August 2025, so the late-night spot took about nine months to go from announcement to opening.
Co-owner David Pinkhasov runs it with longtime friends Mark Isakov and Vlad Shamayev. According to The Detroit News, they opened it because they felt a late-night spot was missing from dining in the Berkley area.
"It's the food that people actually want — burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, sundaes — done right and ready whenever you need it," Pinkhasov said.
The space is small. It has 1,400 square feet and 27 seats, with dine-in, carryout, online ordering and a walk-up pickup window outside. The menu covers smash burgers, chicken sandwiches, short rib grilled cheese, custard sundaes and breakfast. The house special is two smashed patties with American cheese, pickles and secret sauce on a potato bun.
Its current website lists these hours: closed Monday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday. At launch, the schedule ran seven days, so the Monday closure is a later change.
On a Saturday, Buns & Patties stays open four hours after The Beverly closes and five hours after Slows closes. That gap is the clearest measure of how much later a Berkley evening can now run.
Students at The Berkley Spectator reviewed it a few weeks after opening. They gave the smashburger 9.3 out of 10 and the chicken sandwich 9.1.
A Fall Saturday, by the Clock
Put the three schedules together and a full Saturday in Berkley looks like this. Every stop is on Coolidge or 12 Mile, using the posted hours as of early October 2026:
- 10 a.m.: Weekend brunch opens at The Beverly, 3180 Coolidge, and runs until 2 p.m.
- 11 a.m.: Slows on 12 Mile and Buns & Patties on Coolidge both open, for barbecue or a burger at the counter.
- 5 p.m.: Dinner service starts at The Beverly. Its OpenTable listing takes reservations.
- 10 p.m.: Slows closes for the night.
- 11 p.m.: The Beverly closes.
- 3 a.m.: Buns & Patties closes for the night.
Weeknights work differently. On Monday, The Beverly is open for dinner and the other two are closed. From Tuesday through Thursday, Slows and The Beverly cover dinner, and Buns & Patties is the option after 10 p.m. On Sunday, Slows and The Beverly both close at 9 p.m., and Buns & Patties stays open until 1 a.m.
Five of the seven openings and closings on that Saturday happen on Coolidge. Weekend brunch and every hour after 10 p.m. now belong to Coolidge, served from a former auto parts shop and a former Tubby's.
